Meet Gaelle Castor
Gaelle Castor — also known as Maryam Haiti — was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Growing up in a neighborhood that would later become a slum, she found inspiration in the musicians, artists, and activists who dared to challenge injustice around her.
At just 16, she joined the PEJEFE organization to work with children affected by trauma and child labor. After studying in New York and returning each year to volunteer, the devastating 2010 earthquake brought her to her mother's hometown of Leogane — where she founded APDACH, a cultural organization, and launched the Miss Anacaona beauty pageant.
Her work has always centered on women and children, leading naturally to the creation of the Se Fanm television show, and ultimately Se Fanm Foundation Inc. Today, Gaelle is a wife, a mother of five, and an unstoppable advocate for women around the world.
